Kerry's Night
"My fellow citizens, elections are about choices. And choices are about values. In the end, it's not just policies and programs that matter; the president who sits at that desk must be guided by principle."
"For four years, we've heard a lot of talk about values. But values spoken without actions taken are just slogans. Values are not just words. They're what we live by. They're about the causes we champion and the people we fight for. And it is time for those who talk about family values to start valuing families."
"You don't value families by kicking kids out of after school programs and taking cops off our streets, so that Enron can get another tax break."

I was wondering which programs Kerry will cut - besides raising taxes on some - because all of his promises sure sound like a lot of new spending. I liked how Kerry talked so much about his 20 years on the Senate all the good things he had done over the years. Wait, he didnt. Well, he was born in the "West Wing" of the hospital.
Also, for the record, MSNBC, and their all but 1 Democratic panel (Matthews, Reagan, Brown, Trippi, Myers, etc.) also criticzed Kerry for speaking too fast.
I agree, Kerry could have allowed the applause to go farther. However, he risked the networks dropping coverage at 11:00. His speech went from just after 10 to just before 11. He hit the sweet spot of network coverage.
Kerry did promise to do a lot. He also said we need to," make government live by the rule that every family has to follow: pay as you go." I hardly think that the record defecits of the Bush administration put Republicans in any position to attack Kerry on spending.
No network was going to dump his speech mid-way through. Come on. If Kerry wins, you can replace that Saudi / WH picture with one with a big bottle of ketchup sticking out of the WH.
I would much rather see the White House influenced by an American consumer packaged goods corporation than a foreign country known for its evil defectors and powers by virtue of natural resources.
Keeler has a point about the networks. Networks would pre-empt affiliate news programming to keep the Kerry broadcast, especially because his speech has "audience carry-over", meaning, the ratings generated by the audiences who wanted to watch the entirety of his speech would remain high even if the airing continued past prime time (8-11p), the most ratings-heavy daypart. Normally, ratings drop off past 11p.
"For four years, we've heard a lot of talk about values. But values spoken without actions taken are just slogans"...Does Kerry realize he said this, or is he so caught up in all the grandures that he doesn't realize the total hypocrisy? There has been nothing out of Kerry's mouth except his "heroism", and Bush Administration "faults". I've heard nothing of these "ACTIONS" to make this a better country for me, or anyone else. To me, his entire speech at the DNC was nothing but a long slogan.
Help is on the way. The fact is that John Kerry is the real deal. He has a plan to build a stronger more secure America where we are safer at home and respected abroad. Dan, you make a fair point. It frustrates a lot of voters because we never hear specifics from candidates because all we hear are sound bites and slogans.
