Debate Predictions
George Bush will say freedom and variations on freedom like: "free peoples of Iraq," "freeness in their hearts," "freely pursue their dreams" and closely phrased statements over and over and over and over. For Kerry, what he has said in the past and all his lack of clarity can be fixed in one night. Kerry needs to stay within the time he is given. The Republicans spinsters will be all over him if he repeatedly is asked to stop talking because his time has expired.
Kerry will get at least one direct question about his inconsistency from the moderator of the debate. The rap on Kerry going in is that he is inconsistent and long winded because thus far he has been exactly that. If he can be consistent and concise for one night, he will dispel the primary attack of the Republicans.
Bush did an interview this past week with Bill O'Reilly. Bush seemed to struggle with questions like "what would you have done differently?" He seems to have difficulty admitting he made mistakes. I'll be curious to see if that happens tonight.
The Chief Source dream question for tonight's debate: President Bush, you opposed the creation of the 9/11 commission, but then changed your opinion. Why did you oppose a commission seeking to investigate the most catastrophic attack on U.S. soil since Pearl Harbor? Go Kerry!

The big focus of presidential debates has always seemed to be just as much about appearance and demeanor as it is about the issues (see: Kennedy v. Nixon 1960, Bush v. Gore 2000). I hope that in the debates tonight, Kerry will better articulate his platform and aggressively tackle some of Bush's weaker spots, but I think that Bush will undoubtedly present himself to the public much better than Kerry will. He really knows how to work that "just your average stupid guy" persona.
So it seems I was wrong. Can't win 'em all.
