Fundamentalists Not "Fun" But "Mental" on Schiavo

Notice the woman's sign that reads "Barbara Bush, are you proud of your sons now?" One lesson that Republicans need to learn is their wackadoo social conservative base will never be happy because the more you give them the more they want. If you make them feel like they are the reason that you win elections, then they will scare those moderates who actually win elections for you away.

Republicans love to portray their party as one united behind President Bush who won a mandate from the American people. Well, that 51% mandate is starting to show cracks as the President has stumbled lately on Social Security privatization and now the Schiavo case.

The signs of Republicans being unhappy with this Schiavo case are every where. A recent Time Poll had 70% of respondents saying the President's actions in the Schiavo case were"not right." The White House must be getting a similar feeling because this week GW cut short a vacation to fly back to sign emergency legislation, but then did not mention it in his weekly radio address. Hell, even Bob Barr came out against it.

What is happening to Terry Schiavo is truly a sad thing. It is one of the toughest decisions that families have to make, but is it her husband's decision. Just like abortion is one of the hardest decisions that some women have to make, but it is their right. People do have the right to "life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness." The right to "life" doesn't mean that government steps in and forces you to live. "Liberty" should make these decisions free from government involvement and sometimes the "pursuit of happiness" can come through death because the body can no longer handle life.

I also find it interesting that the people who are most religious are the most opposed to death. If Terry Schiavo can go to heaven where she can walk, talk, eat and whatever instead of blink and nod in a hospital bed, then why are these people so opposed to the idea?

Kyle, I too find it strange that the religious folk want to keep her from heaven.
I don't get why religious people try to prohibit everything they see as a "sin". If a person is a "sinner" wouldnt they want that person to have the chance to sin, so God would know they were not worthy of heaven. Instead, if the radicals had it their way, we would live in a society where no one could sin because of our harsh laws, and then almost everyone would make it to heaven.....seems like it would be awfully crowded up there.
For example, they think Michael Schiavo is a murderer, but if Jeb stopped her death, no murder, meaning Michael is still heaven-eligible. Now they are going to bump into him in heaven. You know how mad that would make them.....oh, the irony

Tom Delay is unbelieveable. Yesterday's L.A. Times:
"In 1988, however, there was no such fiery rhetoric as the congressman quietly joined the sad family consensus to let his father die" Full Story

This story is crashing and burning for Delay and the White House. Hypocrisy is one of the worst things to be guilty of in politics.

I also like Bush now trying to claim "he didn't want to sign the Schiavo law".

Maybe he just didn't want to leave vacation, sort of like the days leading up to 9/11

Yesterday on the national news I actually heard one Schiavo protestor tell someone (I think it was one of the police officers stationed at the hospice center), "Jesus Christ hates you." Now I'm not really the praying kind, but in that moment, I couldn't help but wish for a good, Old Testament-style smiting - a lightening bolt, fire raining down from the sky, a flood, something - anything. Despite the strength of my own beliefs about this case, I don't deny that there is a need for some serious national dialogue and debate about the issues raised by it. These "protestors" do nothing but make a mockery of this family's tragedy and add absolutely nothing meaningful to public discourse. The media should be ashamed of themselves for perpetuating this repulsive grandstanding - they are not news, they are a disturbing and nauseating circus side show.
