At Least Bolton Only Yells At Women

Last year Bush appointed a Dr. Hagar to a position on the FDA. I have recently read up on some of the doctor's beliefs......

1) Hagar says women suffering from PMS should pray and read the Bible for relief.
2) Hagar has railed against the morning after pill, by lying about its safety.
3) He refuses to prescribe birth control to unmarried women.

But those things are just small potatoes, compared to Hagar's very unusual stance on personal morality.....
On one hand, Hagar is a proponent of abstinence, and loves to boast of his close personal relationship with God. But on the other hand, he is a rapist.

See, Hagar's ex-wife has been outspoken about how her marriage with Hagar. She has explained that while they were married Hagar repeatedly sodomized her without her consent. "I probably wouldn't have objected so much, or felt it was so abusive if he had just wanted normal [vaginal] sex all the time," she explained. "But it was the painful, invasive, totally nonconsensual nature of the [anal] sex that was so horrible."

Just another example of the qualifications needed to work for Bush.

Reading about this sort of thing frightens me. I'm sure that the standard Hagar supporter rebuttal would read something along the lines of, "When acting in the interest of the government, Hagar won't bring his personal opinion and will act in the best interest of the population." I hear this every time some nut is suggested for Attorney General, or the FDA. Don't bet on it. The man wouldn't even let his wife have her choice of where to be sodomized. You think he'll be cool with giving American women the choice of a contraceptive?

Thankfully we have a system of checks and balances that will (hopefully) prevent this lunatic from barring the information and accessibility that every woman has a right to have.

Haggar is definately a dick, but his appointment to the FDA isn't nearly as important as that of John Bolton's possible appointment to the U.N.

I'm kind of undecided about Bolton. I'm sure his opinion of the U.N. is close to mine, but it is so easy to imagine his personality getting in the way of any possible improvements he might make.

Personally, I think the U.N. should stick to what it does best, which is distribute charitible aid. Other than that, it is a worthless organization, and I wouldn't mind seeing it collapse, or the U.S. start ignoring it even more than we do now, and that might happen with Bolton in there.

i guess in his defense (not sure why i would do such a thing), he hasn't been charged with anything. but you know this stuff is true.

all these "values" guys are nuts. the gay bashers are closet gays, the religious right is filled with hate, and the "family values" advocates are all misogynist assholes.

they don't think women should work, so i am sure they think they are entitled to all the sex they desire. its just their servants job

well jeff, obviously we don't agree on the UN. it may have problems, but abandonment is not the way.

Note: listening to Bono (yesterday on meet the press) talk about Africa, I have to give Bush credit for his aid to Africa and say President Clinton was a failure there. Now (according to my adoption of Bono's beliefs), Bush must step up even further or all his advances will be considered failure.
(i loved how Bono was blaming everything on Bush's advisors, which very well may be true)

That is a funny pic.

Anyway, Africa is a great topic to talk about, someone should write a piece on it (maybe I'll give it a wing)

There is a great article on www.reason.com about africa, called "Trade not Aid".

By the way Liberals should occasionally check out their blog called "Hit and Run." It will be a nice mix of opinion you'll agree and disagree with, and I think you'll find the comments a little more educated than most retarded right-wing blogs.

The U.N. is a terrible idea, it is too far removed from the people of the countries it represents, which makes it a great vehicle for abuses, and scandels.

They also have been completely impotent for years.... What do they actually do in that huge building? Why wouldn't they call the atrocities in Darfur genocide? Why do they not try and stop the abuses of evil dictators around the globe?

I guess they are probably still trying to define the words "genocide" and "abuses"

it does take time to get shit done in the UN, but i'd rather it take time, so they can make people happy.

the UN needs some reforms, but not the type of proposals that you or John Bolton desire.

I just think there needs to be commitment to the UN by the US, and then things would move faster.

I read a great idea: Bill Clinton take over for Kofi Annan as UN Chief. That would bring it instant credibility
(rules would have to change to make it happen)
