Bush's Freedom: Killing Christians
On more occassions then one can count, President Bush has explained that we are "spreading freedom" throughout the Middle East. Bush explains that Afghanistan was the first step in this alleged "freedom spreading."
Problem: In the new Afghanistan government, the place where all Republicans seem to celebrate as some sort of great success, a person can be legally executed for converting to Christianity. I repeat, the Afghani government authorizes the death penalty for becoming a Christian.
Just this week Abdul Rahman was set for execution because he "abandoned Islam." He was originally jailed for carrying a bible. Then when he confessed his love of Jesus, he was set for execution. Then, amid international pressure, they let the guy go. However, it is believed that thousands of other Afghanis are facing execution for their faith. Way to go Operation Enduring Freedom! Freedom is on the march!
Oh, and speaking of that great success story, Afghanistan, 4 years later, the Taliban is still up and running....and attacking (and killing) US soliders. I asked the same question almost a year ago: the Taliban? Seriously, how in the hell are they still running shop in Afghanistan? Oh wait, there's that whole thing about how we only have like 10,000 troops there, because we needed to send all of our troops to that waste in Iraq.

Plus, some of the leaders in Afghanistan are busy covering up criminal death of Pat Tillman.....and explaining how the millitary (and Bush) used his death as a PR tool, in spite of the horrible reality of his death.
One other additional note:
"amid international pressure" the guy was set free. Just to clarify, the US was not really a part of the international outrage over this. or at least they played a much smaller part in saving that guys life then other European nations.
Remembering his days back in Texas, I guess Bush just cannot resist embracing the death penalty.
during the discussion of executing the Christian convert, Bush merely said that it troubles him. that's it! Our troops are over there defending a government who would execute them if they could (assuming many of them are Christians). It's outrageous. And the most Bush can say is that it's troubling?
Some say he's only one guy - what about the thousands of people who are killed every day in Africa? That's an excellent point. However, we are defending a government who executes people for their beliefs. What does that say about us?
Afgahnistan is so much better off than it was. It is not perfect but nowhere is. Freedom is on the march in Afhganistan.
If you read the transcript form Bill Maher last week ro happen to catch a rerun from when he had on Jason Alexander amongst his guests, there are some pretty good view points from a more Middle Eastern perspective offered up in support of how things are progressing in Afgahnistan and supporting the lack of US involvement in this trial. According to the young writer's argument, this is an important time for the people of Afgahnistan to determine what their democratic values will be going forward and how they are going to address issues like this which involve the ties and divisions between religious rule and a democratic state. I will find out what the guy's name was who offered this opinion.
The author's name was Reza Aslan, There is no god but God was the title of his recently published book. He seemed liek a really bright young kid.
Ben,
Under your explanation. Hussein was justified in killing people who opposed him because it was in thier law. They had democratic elections in Iraq before we got there.
So why did we topple him?
If Afghanistan is making progress, it is more because of our Allies than us. We rarely hear anything in our news about the war we started there. I've been reading Canadian news for a different viewpoint, and they are fighting battles every day, and losing their own young soldiers. They made an investment and a committment there that is important to the whole world - stopping terrorists - unlike the US, who ran off to start another war. If we had our troops there helping out, maybe we would have caught bin Laden and stopped the Taliban from renewing their strength.
We went into topple Hussein because we thought he had WMD. It looks like he may not have. We went in because he had connections to terrorists and and Al-Qaeda. He did. We went in there because he violated 17 UN resolutions and kicked out weapons inspectors. We went into change the Middle East. You dont have to agree with going in - but those were the reasons.
"If we had our troops there helping out." - The US does more than any other country for Afghinstan. They are certianly helping out.
Have you guys seen Jesus' physique? What a killer bod! Hell, I'd have crucified him to; sort of like a Judean pin-up. Too bad they had that loin cloth censorship back then.

The truth is, Bush said we were going in even if there were NO wmd's (recently released memo + Downing St memo).
We went in to try out new bombs. We went in for the oil. We went in for $$$MONEY MONEY MONEY$$$.
This whole thing is structured on the self-interest of a few powerful men with NO true regard for the citizens or soldiers on the ground.
"We went in to change the Middle East"--That is true--but we forgot to ask the people what we should change it into, or if they would rather handle their own problems themselves.
This smacks of the unfounded faith many have in "The Superiority of Western Culture"..This smacks of some ignorant Texan thinking he knows ANYTHING about how the Middle East.
All he KNEW was he would stop at Nothing to Mcdonald-ize Iraq and remove that bad man who threatened his daddy.

Ben, we went into Iraq because the blueprint for our current foreign policy was being written back in 1992 by then-Defense Secretary, Dick Cheney. His writings set out a new doctrine that called for U.S. power in the twentieth century, to be that of an aggressive and unilateral approach that would secure American dominance of world affairs by force if necessary. This "peace through strength" policy has been unfolding from the day Bush, Jr. took office; the strategic planning of it was done during the Clinton administration with funding from the military-industrial complex, energy companies, and right-wing foundations. Over time, those working on these new plans evolved into PNAC, established in 1997 with members Dick Cheney, Donald Rumsfeld, and Paul Wolfowitz at the helm. May God help us!
Plain and simple - This is why we went into Iraq.
Ben , Read This and tell me what you think
Bush planned Iraq 'regime change' before becoming President
no need to get worked up. Ben has proved that he will just say whatever, with total disregard for the facts.
Chuck, I know the 'follow the leader" routine well. Until about 25 years ago, I am ashamed to say that I was a closed minded follower too.
But the a lawyer friend enlightened me with this simple statement:
"Its not what you Think it is ---- Its what it is"
In other words "Face the facts - Not what is convenient"
I have suspicioned all politicians since...and worked hard to make them accountable.
And on a religious (moral) scale- CONVENIENTLY believing all that the leaders tell you is one of the most deadly sins - SLOTH
I have been blessed with good teachers and honest friends - If I am able to open even one eye to all the present corruption - it is a tribute to them
