Tom Sawyer for State School Board

Tom Sawyer and his campaign have released a short video on why he is running for State School Board. If you don't know who Sawyer is, I still recommend the video because it is a good politics 101 lesson in a candidate introducing himself to voters. We fully support Tom's candidacy and look forward to providing more detailed information on his race in the coming weeks.

is he running for state school board because he misses the perks and prestige of holding office and collecting a public paycheck? that's what it looks like.

this is the vote tally for the house republican plan to deal with terror detainees. sherrod brown (running statewide in a state that twice voted for bush) and harold ford jr. (same) were two of 34 democrats to vote with members of america's majority party. why, do you think, they would do that? could it be because they want to be on the right side of this important issue (bush's) in an election year?

dow jones approaches an all-time high this week.

gas prices projected to continue to fall in months to come.

democrats' plan to capitalize on partial leak of nie document fizzles (again) when release of the full document paints a picture completely opposite of what they hoped to hoodwink americans into believing.

I have to say that I've been sleeping better at night knowing that Sawyer is back on the ballot this fall. There were many restless nights when his talents were on the shelf.

Mr. Sawyer's opponent in this race is a supporter of teaching creation in schools. (She probably calls it Intelligent Design). I would imagine Tom Sawyer saw someone who was endangering our education system, saw himself in a position to present another side, and jumped in the race. He has served Ohio for many years, and has a deep concern for the current education system. That's why he's running. His concern is not only the grossly unfair and illegal funding of our schools, but also the educational gap between 12th grade and Freshman year of college, and he wants to do something to improve it.

conservatives, don't vote for his opponent just because she has an R next to her name. Look into her record, what she says, and evaluate whether our current system is what's best, or if we need a change. Do you really want evolution taught in science class? Is that the best way to prepare students for college? For global competition?

I want evolution taught in science class. I want the "creation" view that is UN scientific, issued to the realm of Sunday "school".

To me Creationism is to Science what A "Flat" World was to global navigation.

& Besides, If you want to believe that God created the universe - Fine...because HE probably lit the fuse for the BIG BANG ===> from which his miraculous evolution followed.

I meant "creation" in that last paragraph.

with all due respect, a person's views on the origin of the universe have absolutely nothing to do with competition in the global marketplace. you might as well have said businesses competing globally should hang "christians need not apply" signs in their windows. personal faith and economic success are not mutually exclusive.

evolution in the classroom? tough call. but are you 100% sure the world wasn't greated by something greater than you?

one: tom sawyer is doing us all(democrats) a favor by running. come on ben, school board member is hardly a prestiges job. its thankless and low-profile.
two: believing in evolution is hardly incompatible with believing in a higher power. just because i'm no longer niave enough to believe the earth is a little over 5000 years old doesn't make me "godless". i believe something set evolution in motion, call it god.

Exactly Tim, I think God lit the fuse for the Big Bang and all the evolution that followed.

The main point to remember is that if you truly believe in the Higher Power - You should also realize that you do not have the intellectual capacity to fully comprehend the big picture
