Republican Kevin Coughlin's Gutter Campaign

Here is an example of the type of campaign material the Ohio Republican Party is sending straight from the gutter to a mailbox near you on behalf of Republican State Senator Kevin Coughlin.

The Campaign of Republican Kevin Coughlin of Cuyahoga Falls for the State Senate is the most spineless-gutter-smear-garbage-campaign we have seen in Northeast Ohio. The Chief Source already covered his tv ads. Now, the direct mail piece pictured above is being delivered around the district. It is more proof that Republicans like Coughlin will do and say anything to get elected. Kevin figures that people won't realize the kind of devilish direct mail smear campaign he is running until after the election. We hope to change that.

Why resort to these tactics? Well, Kevin Coughlin was not endorsed by the Akron Beacon Journal: "Whether on the campaign trail or in the legislature, Coughlin talks a big game. He knows self-promotion. Voters deserve more from a candidate with a decade of Statehouse experience. [Democrat] Judy Hanna shows the promise to develop into a leader who will get things moving in the right direction." - full article

Chief Source Call To Action: We ask all of our readers to help spread the word about Republican Kevin Coughlin's gutter campaign. Urge everyone you know to vote for Democrat Judy Hanna. Don't let these kind of tactics win.

He is the one putting in images of burning flags! What a sicko. I hope our one close conservative friend/rival has some decency to no support gutter trash like this.

Don't blame Coughlin for Judy Hanna's anti-American rantings.

At last he's factual and honest when he filets his opponent. They're just using her own words, and in context I should add.

Hanna's attack on Coughlin that started airing this weekend is so silly and untruthful. Sorry guys. Judy is floundering and Coughlin's tightening the screws.

I am unaware of Hanna burning a flag.
I am aware of the Ohio Republicans burning a flag.

The Ohio Elections Commission does not agree with you or Judy that Coughlin's campaign has distorted her record. Last week, they unanimously voted to dismiss her complaint against the ads on flag burning and her leadership role in the Green Party.

Why? BECAUSE THEY ARE TRUE.

The bipartisan commission ruled that Coughlin's ads were truthful and rejected Hanna's claim out of hand.

When she looked into a camera and introduced herself as the Green party coordinator for Summit County in the 2004 recount, she meant it.

When the Green Party filed a form with the Board of Elections designating her as their official representative in Summit County, they meant t.

When she wrote that flag burners are "democratic reformers", she meant that.

When she wrote that the United States of America is "deplorable", then later "evil", she meant that.

Pretty straight forward. No need to distort wacko dribble like that. It's good enough on it's own.

Here we go again . . .

Using her own words?

Again, like with the crazy Coughlin TV ad in which he burns an American flag, this direct mail piece also reveals Coughlin's parallel world in which he can claim anything he wants.

Again, I ask Ben or any Coughlin sympathizer to point to the exact words where our next state senator, Judy Hanna, "praises" flag burners like Coughlin.

She simply states that somebody burned a flag. I don't read anywhere that she says this is good or bad.

Why not just "use her own words" and not add on Coughlin's own conclusion?

Why? Because Coughlin is running scared and afraid to talk about his own record, like his diversion of public funds to failing, for-profit charter schools.

Judy Hanna will make a great state senator for Ohio's 27th district. Judy will bring us the kind of support we want for public schools, honest elections, and clean environment.

Enough with this nutcase Coughlin.

Oh . . . and I guess I should answer the question . . .

Judy Hanna
Does She Speak for You?

My answer:

YES!
(and I'd like for her to speak for me as my state senator.)

Although I believe a person has the right to burn the flag or not condem those that do I question whether I would want to support that person. That fact alone is not enough to make a decision perhaps but it is a consideration that I do feel is part of the decison makeing process.

You're right Fred, we should take people's beliefs into consideration - the belief that flag burning is part of free speech.

Hanna never burned a flag. I hope you don't think she did. All she did was say "a flag burning had occurred."

anon, She has also never been a part of the Green Party.

A worse despicable smearing is on behalf of BettyScumbag
Montomery - The Republican Party is suggesting that Dann approves of Child Molesters.

Amazing!

how is it smearing someone by using her own words against her. i dont get it. she praises flag burners. thats ok if she wants. but dont expect it not to be brought up. If she praises flag burners, people have the right to know. Nothing "gutter" about that. If KC was pro-praising prostituion then Hanna would be fine running those ads.

No Coughlin was not endorsed by the ABJ. He was endorsed by the PD though. But doubt you, just like me, base your decsions on who papers endorse though, because if that was the case we would both be voting for Strickland and DeWine, and I am pretty sure we wont both be doing that.

"a flag burning had occured at the location as well, those democratic reformers were seeking liberty that the government was not going to support" - That is the quote from Judy Hanna that is the supposed smoking gun on this Coughlin lit.

Please direct me to the praise of flag buring. You have to admit that it is a huuuuge stretch at best.

You guys don't get it. All people are hearing is Judy Hanna - flag burning, flag burning, flag burning, flag burning.

Keep going. Please.

Ben, this all so much putrid bullshit. These smears are not even worth arguing over. Its like arguing over what color vomit is.

I think we could agree that it is all despicable.?

The only problem is that some idiot out there will vote AGAINST a candidate because he/she endorses flag burning.....hand me the waaaaaaaaste Baaaaaaaasket aaaaaaaaa

I should say : because he/ she is "perceived" to support flag burning...

The Marc Dann smear commercial is even worse. Implying that he endorses child molesting because, as a lawyer, he defended a child molester.

AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAaYYYYEEEEEEaaaaa
