Bad Democrat, but at least.....
The more I look into it, I hate California politics. From all I read, State House Speaker Fabian Nunez (a Democrat) seems pretty corrupt, especially in light of this crap where AT&T basically laundered money to the Democrats and Nunez. In exchange, Nunez hooked AT&T with some big-time deregulation. Way to stay principled!Anyway, two thoughts: 1) obviously, power does corrupt Democrats too (nothing compared to recent GOP abuses, but still); 2) California voters too often just vote with the masses, paying little attention to important details, a similar symptom of Southern voters.
But at least Nunez, nor any other Democrat, has not been recently arrested for beating his wife. The same is not true for Minnesota Republican Mark Olson.
And at least Nunez, nor any other Democrat, has not furiously vented that blacks should "get over" slavery during a speech on the State floor. The same is not true for Viriginia Republican Frank Hargrove, who opposed a state measure that would apologize to the state's decedents of slaves.
Somewhat Related: Speaking of slave decedents, evidently Al Sharpton's family was owned by Republican Strom Thurmond's family. Sharpton is looking into it.....but Frank Hargrove thinks he should get over it.

you're right chuckles, anyone who suffered through slavery should not have to get over it.
Nothing surprises me about California. I could never understand some of the fantasyland attitudes out there.
The one paradox has always been that of the "every man for himself/do your own thing" attitude
And a score card is necessary to tell the the parties apart
All those that suffered thru slavery are dead and resting in peace.

That Sharpton Thurmond connection was a strange story. I wonder if more of those connections will be made as historical documents become easier to search as they are cataloged online?
You know -- something to remember is that there is ONLY ONE RACE of humans on Earth. We are all the virtually the same.
Another thing is that if your ancestors were here in America very early (1700's) you may be related to anyone else whose ancestors were here too. In my case , my last name is about 13th on the list of common surnames. 2/3 of all Americans with that namme appear black while I appear white.
I always think that maybe I am related to anyone I meet and am certainly brothers and sisters in the Lords eyes.
One other point about not looking down on anyone because of his/her appearance/ skin color....If you just really knew whats in your gene pool......You NEVER know where that kinky hair, green eyes or that olive complection came from Now do you?

I have a confused stance on these apology statements.
Tend to think it is such a loaded issue that its better leave a sleeping dog sleep.
But the whole comment was no reference in support or opposition to anyone- just staement of fact.
While on fact: Jews did not crucify Jesus - Roman soldiers did it. It has been said to bee the first hired "Hit"
But if you believe that jesus lives forever...then the point who did that is moot
