Two disturbing signs of a warmer climate have emerged in the form of overpopulated cats and early-arriving geese.Cats
Mild weather in Canada has caused a kitten explosion. The cats who are normally finding warm shelter are out and about this year, friskier than ever. The result: kittens! Lots and lots of kittens! Most humane societies already can't keep up with the current population of strays. "Kathy Duncan, animal services manager for Oshawa, deplores the "disposable" attitude toward cats. Less than 3 per cent that end up in Oshawa's pound are claimed, she said. The growing population means more animals have to be euthanized because there aren't enough adoptive homes to go around." Geese
Tens of thousands of snow geese have arrived south early this year, and have destroyed grass that farmer
s normally reserve to feed their cattle. "Climate change enters the picture because the snow geese breed and nest on Wrangel Island, Russia, which Davison described as "a volatile arctic environment." Now that the climate has moderated in that frigid region, more eggs are hatching out and more chicks are surviving."The damage is starting to affect small dairy farmers' bottom lines as they lose the crop they were going to sell or feed to their animals, and now they have to buy more hay to feed their animals.
"In Oien's case, thousands of snow geese last year ate $10,000 worth of the grass that he was going to feed his cows. He had to spend another $10,000 on store-bought hay to replace his loss."
These are just 2 examples of the havoc global warming is wreaking on us. It's costing money and lives, and it's happening fast! Have you seen any examples of global warming's impact?

yeah one bonus of global warming is that I go into heat as well in the spring, I get the fever and I become a raging hard-on looking for a hole.
I wouldn't exactly call those two examples havoc. It's not like there are piles of kittens and geese so high we need to call in the Army Corp of Engineers. Plus I would imagine if there were piles of kittens, women would be gleefully skipping in the streets and going through digital photos as if they were candy.
why don't we just eat the extra cats and geese? They would definitely warm the tummies of some of our poor and suffering, plus it will be fun to shoot dead the cats and the geese!!!!!!!!!
They're havoc for the farmers who have to pay $10,000s to replace crops eaten by the abundance of early geese. I think people who are directly affected by the overpopulation and off-timing of the animals are feeling the pain.
I agree these occurences are causing havoc for the affected individuals, but I think it is a huge leap to chalk the much earlier arrival of geese this year up to somthing long range like 'global warming'. If there is a steady, year-over-year pattern of the geese arriving earlier and earlier (which may well be the case) then that is something more easily linked to global warming then a one-off type of scenario.
Might the goose population increase also be tied to the prior restrictions on hunting them in many states and provinces in the US and Canada?

I am going to be pissed off when I can't sleep with my windows open because of the stray city cats out getting it on or getting in fights at night. I heard some of them out last night and my windows were closed.

This if Mort Consternationolopolis. It's come to my attention that an increasing number of bloggers are trying to mimic my style. Please refrain from trying to be clever. You see, friends of mine believe you to be me and make mention of your comments to me, thinking that I'll understand what they are saying, when, in actuality, I don't, causing a sort of rift in my friendships currently. In relating news, I have few friends to begin with, and losing a few here or there because of falter bloggers, seriously disrupts my social life. Now, I'm stuck with my two cats (both healthfully clever in terms of conversation, but they are limited in interests--I'm not much of a fan of discussing the taste of "new" food or the pain felt when a claw gets stuck in the curtains). So please, attempting-to-be-clever people, stop it. You lose. You're no good at cleverocities. Leave it to me. You're much better off being serious.

Though earlier and milder spring temps are part of the problem, snows are by nature much more competitive in than Canada geese(other geese in these nesting grounds)...thus pushing them out of/and putting greater pressure on the Canadas.
State wildlife biologists have begun creating a new and longer hunting season specifically for snow geese. In these conservation order seasons hunters are encouraged to kill as many geese as possible. As a reference, in major migratory flyway states like Minnesota and Missouri the daily bag limit on canada geese is between 2-5 birds per hunter. But during the CO season, there is no limit and hunters may take as many birds as possible. I've seen many cases where hunters fill their pickups with birds.

I'm not the type to kill cats. The most they will get from me is the powerful beam of my Maglight from my widows searching for those wild beasts. I'd imagine you would have to be a pretty tough cat to survive a night in Akron against the ghetto cats that roam wild.
