Joe Finley Came To My House
...but, I missed his stop because I was at work. Finley is challenging incumbent Don Plusquellic in the Democratic Primary to be the Mayor of Akron. I did receive a piece of literature (pictured) signed by Joe with a nice hand written "sorry I missed you." I respect candidates going door to door. Even though I'm not going to vote for Joe Finley, I would have listened to what he had to say had I been home. Then, I'd have probably asked him about what it means to be 100% pro-life and why that position needs to be qualified with a percentage? After telling him about the Keeler Report, I would wish him well. I live in a heavily Democratic and very walkable district so I'm not surprised when I find lit on my door step.

"Both the low turnout and the rejection of [the tax levy] might be a perception of people that things are good in Akron," Brooks said. "That actually gives the mayor an edge in terms of his re-election campaign. He can certainly take credit for some of the reasons Akron is good."Akron is good and that is why I want to keep Mayor Plusquellic.

Finley looks like he's just a typical politician. The part in his little pamphlit that annoyed me the most was when he said that he would treat nearby mayors and parking attendents with respect, Isnt that what hes supposed to do?
Also taking a 10% pay cut doesnt make him look any better in my book.
In closing it just looks like he's promosing a bunch of lies and looks to be a shitty politician.
Especially if hes pro-life. Whats his stance on gay marriage?
Anonymous, good points. I had originally started typing the line about the parking attendants in my post, but stopped because I realized that I was doing exactly what the Finley campaign wants which is to talk about it. On the 10% paycut point, I want city employees paid a competitive salary so we hire and retain qualified people.
The results of the primary come down to how many people are angry at the mayor vs. how many support his work. I can see pockets of both. But with the mayor's giant money machine I don't suppose Mr. Finley will make it out alive. I met him at the FOP Diner, he came off as a nice guy, but is that enough?

At the outset of WW2 some US residents that were citizens of Germany and Italy were sent back to their home countires and others were interrred. This caused hardship not only for those individuals but their families. In addition the Italian and German communties were subject to intense discrimination and persecution.
I propose that a committee( of two specialists) be organized for each group.
They will study the damages incurrred by the individuals and groups and recommend remedies. This could include any number of actions including payments to the victims of those communities( similar to the proposed payments to African Americans). Also it is necessary to develop and implement an educational program to enlighten our society to the injustices incurred by these groups by American policy.
