Should Ohio Ban Teen Tanning?
I have blogged before about the growing orange community here in Northeast Ohio. Today, their children face a new challenge.I heard on WKSU that six Ohio House members think that teens should be banned from tanning beds unless they have a doctor's permission. They site rising rates of skin cancer and the sensitivity of a child's skin as reasons for the ban. The American Academy of Dermatology says "no minor should be permitted to use tanning devices." Dr. Spencer of the AADA added: "Dr. Spencer. "Research has shown that indoor tanning is dangerous, and there should be laws to protect children from engaging in this activity as there are from other unhealthy behaviors such as drinking or smoking. We urge all states to take immediate action to prohibit indoor tanning for minors." Ohio may take action.
Question: Do you think Ohio should ban teen tanning?

No ban. Just some more guidelines on tanning place owners to limit use on teens.
yeah that will work?!?
No, lets ban teens from using the sun. Much more effective.
....and in 20 years when they all look like Yoda they can file a class action suit against the operators and the tanning bed manufacturers for not fully disclosing the risks.
I wonder how many parents take their kids to tanning salons and how young they start?
no one should tan anyways, it is horrible for your skin.
And anyways - the 80's are over.
Dark tans are sick.
It is really questionable behavior for men.
The people at the salons or tanning bed places should just have the dangers of tanning posted in every room with a tanning bed, and make sure its huge so they don't miss it. Or for every (new?) customer should recieve a pamphlit about the risks of tanning or w/e.
Or sign a waver when they sign up with the tanning place or every time they tan agreeing to the risks of tanning and the tanning salon will not be held accountable.
No need to ban tanning, just make sure every person tanning knows the risks and let them know what they're getting into. No need to lie to the customers like tobacco companies did, just make sure htey know its going to be their fault when they get skin cancer and they're orange and ugly.
kyle FYI your site works at panera again.
Why is it a questionable behavior for men?
I have been to tanning salons and they do make you sign a waver and they do distribute pamphlets on the dangers of tanning. Another warning they have are posters with lists of medication in each room that may make you more vulnerable to tanning beds. I think people need to take responsiblity for themselves for once and make good choices. I also think tan fat looks better than white fat. :)
Ok this is the former anony again, I didnt know they did any of those things because Im a guy and I dont go to tanning beds. Does every tanning bed place do these types of things?
Ben, good to hear my appeal with Panera's internet provider was approved. Thanks for the update.
