The Grim Reaper is a Cat
Oscar the cat (pictured) was raised in a dementia ward of a hospice, and apparently has developed the ability to predict the deaths of patients.Although the cat is normally unaffectionate, he will curl up with patients from time to time. When he does, it is time to call the family, as the patient likely has less than four hours to live.
Oscar has been recorded predicting deaths correctly over 25 times in a row, which has lead Doctor Dosa, of Brown university to publish a study on Oscar.

At the risk of sounding like someone who has a tattoo of a dolphin jumping over a crescent moon...the animal kingdom is brimming with wonder.
As you guys may have noticed in my new updated Bio I put "ants" and "bats" as two of my favorite things. Forget the iPhone. Things like bioluminescence, sonar and the inner workings of insect colonies put our concepts of advanced technology in perspective: shiny sticks and stones, people.
This is one thing that I've always enjoyed about the debate over evolution. Whether you're reading Natural Selection genius Richard Dawkins, or Intelligent Design phony Michael Behe, both leave you with a greater appreciation of the natural world.
Getting back to the cat...I have no doubt that a cat, surrounded by death, could develop this sense. In fact back in 2005, I was the first blogger in NE Ohio to bring attention to this shocking development regarding the use of military dolphins.
Cats have been known to travel by instinct very long distances to their homes or owner.
A while back, the military was studying cats to determine if they have some "GPS" built in sense.
My dog knows when I am coming home although I come home at different times.

I have a cat that lives in my garage because he makes anyone with a cat allergy go into immediate respiratory distress. If that cat spent 4 hours lying next to me on a my bed, I would be dead at the end of the 4 hours. Maybe the cat in question isn't forecasting death, but causing it.

The way I look at it, my tomcat kills about one rodent and day on average. He has probably saved my life from hantavirus
I love how the doctors take the cat seriously. They know that he knows what's going on. One published the story in the New England Journal of Medicine. There are countless stories of dogs and cats identifying people's illnesses, predicting weather and earthquakes. Amazing!

This story also made NBC nightly news. They had some old guy on there who said, "Fortunately he only stayed a moment with me today." His comment got me thinking. What if accepting death is more psychological than physical? If people close to death in a nursing home accept that the "kiss of death cat" sitting with you for a few hours means your time has come then maybe it comes.
The other funny thing about the piece on NBC is that they tried to end it by making it some kind of feel good story. "And that's one special feline that's got a feeling for when you're going to die. Chip Reid. NBC news. Some nursing home."
Yeah right. Keep that death cat away from me.

Kyle, I think those people are close enough to death that they aren't making a lot of choices at that point. They aren't following the signs of the "death cat." They probably don't even know that he's there, or that his snuggling means the end.
I like that he puts up a fuss if they take him out of the room. He really wants to be there with people when they go.
I tell ya, cats have senses that we will never know.
