Larry King Must Die!
There are times when you simply need to read between the lines. This is one of those times...There's been an ongoing spat between Michael Moore and CNN regarding the facts in his new film Sicko. I recommend watching the three clip (under the "CNN TV" tab, particularly: Moore, Gupta debate 'Sicko' 12:01) and skimming CNNs final response.
Moore does a piss-poor job defending himself, losing his temper and shouting at that poor, hairy automaton/patsy Wolf Blitzer. But anyone who reviews all the coverage can see that, belligerent or not, Moore is in the right. Without getting into the semantics, here's what happened:
CNN did a half assed 'Fact Check' where, amongst other things, they criticised Moore for misrepresenting a fact that they later admitted they had misrepresented in what they called a "transcription error."
That error aside, the overall message of CNN's 'Fact Check' was crystal clear and well summed up in it's closing line:
"...but no matter how much Moore fudged the facts, and he did fudge the facts, the system here should be far better."
So, in a very professional, civil manner, CNN called Moore a liar and discredited his film. And when Moore tried to defend his name and work, Larry King had the nerve to ask him why he was so mad! Larry seemed to think that since CNN's Fact Check numbers were not substantially different from Moore's that Moore was making a mountain out of a mole hill (as opposed to exonerating himself)!!!
As many of you know I'm moving to NYC this month, and I'll tell you I'm scared...if I run into Larry King in a dark alley I fear I will pummel him until his heart stops beating. He's so busy loving himself and his 50 years of intriguing interviews, that he seems completely oblivious to what's happening on his show. The man should really be put to sleep.
More revealing though is the CNN official response. They are clearly being evasive and disingenuous. They are focusing on exactly which WHO report they got their numbers from in order to explain why they might have differed slightly from Moore's sited WHO numbers.
But who cares?!? That's not the point!The point is that they conducted a thorough "Fact Check," and told the American people conclusively that Moore had been less than truthful, without having anything substantial to back it up. They even made errors in their own Fact Check!!! And when they got called out on it, they hit the kill-switch and claimed:
"While Mr. Moore may want to continue the discussion in order to drive publicity to his movie, we have presented the facts and are comfortable letting the viewers judge for themselves."
CNN, if can you hear me...I've judged...and you're dead to me! I'm going back to the BBC.

I watched all those interviews. It was angering. I agree Moore didn't do good at defending himself, but I think he was just so taken back by it. There is not one incorrect fact in the movie, and that is a fact.
That Sanja Gupta is a bum. I was much more bothered by him than Larry King. King is just an idiot. He cancelled his original Moore interview, so he could interview Paris Hilton.

Larry, CNN, and the rest of the gang are just a bunch of shills for the Pharm/Ins lobby. I think their attack (which is feeble at best) on Moores film is completely half assed.
As Chuck said, if you see the movie, you will most likely have NO problem with the Moore's warrants.

Moore made an ass out of himself when he accused Gupta of not disclosing his expert as a republican contributor. (So is moore himself uncredible? I'd be shocked if he doesn't give the dems any money)
Moore accusing anybody of nondisclosure is never a good thing. He should have just stood by his facts and left it at that.
As for Gupta and co., they shouldn't keep acusing moore of fact-fudging. That isn't moore's tactic this time. Ignoring the opposite side of the story, using old out-dated anecdotal evidence, those are not fact fudging, those are things you see in almost every politically inspired documentary.
These guys would do better to just ignore moore, and instead run a detailed piece exposing the problems with universal health plans. It's always better to attack an idea than a person, especially a person as polarizing as moore. He's like hillary, no one is going to change their mind about him. (he could make a movie about the greatness of libertarianism, and I would still call him a douch)

CNN's Fact Check was so incredibly slanted and was someone's attempt to discredit the film and marginalize the issue.
The network told its viewers that Moore's facts didn't check out. Period. When pushed it was clear that they didn't have a leg to stand on and in fact their facts were MORE suspect than Moore's!
I'm just really really disappointed in CNN. Considering an all-out boycott.

Moore did a good job defending himself. Do you think you could've done better in his situation? He wasnt prepared for them to play that bull shit right before they interviewed him. He was probably expecting a interview discussing how crappy HMOs are in america, not how pathetic CNN is. CNN is a shitty news network, I dont know which network to trust. I stopped watching CNN when they kept asking people on the steet is "Barack Hussein Obama a threat to the US?" and these stupid Americans kept buying into it thinking CNN was talking about Osama Bin Ladin. Chuck, how many experts on healthcare have no vested interests, how many experts are unbiased? They are all biased. It was a stupid point by moore, a man who wants more than anything to play the "gotcha" game with anyone who he disagrees with. I like arguing ideas and facts, rather than mud slinging.
Bob, we are in complete agreement that CNN's "fact check" revealed nothing, it was pointless journalism by a network that wanted to create some good live drama that they can then continue to report on for the rest of the week.
Poor Micheal Moore wasn't prepared for bullshit. Why, he would NEVER put anyone on the spot with his own bullshit.
CNN deserves a boycott (when haven't they), Moore is an asshole, and it is kinda fun to watch him get pissed in front of a camera rather than one of his victims.
Assuming that I knew the material, would I have done better than Moore? Who knows.
I would have tried to keep my cool (in my tone of voice at least) and I definitely would have tried to keep the focus on the big picture, when Larry asked why I was so mad I would have said straight up that CNN was suggesting that I was a liar and discrediting my life's work and I would have demanded that they back up the claim. I would have asked them to tell me what the single, biggest error was and when they did I would have cited my source and shot it down.
Oh and when Wolf told me that the Dr. was super-uber-qualified to comment I would have said that it was unfortunate that such a bright, talented individual had sold his soul to the devil.

A while back someone argued that Gov Strickland was dragging his feet on the education funding issue.
Well, I just recd a mailing from the Geauga Cty auditor stating that I was eligible for the new homestead act. Strickland spearheaded this law which will give me a $ 380 tax break( due to a disabled wife) and my mother $800 +-. This is part of a plan to shift the school prop tax burden off the disabled and elderly,,,and will certainly force the refunding issue due to loss of local prop taxes.

The proof is in the pudding. As I said in the post each one of us needs to watch, listen and read between the lines. To me, it seems obvious that his Fact Check segment was intentionally misleading. I mean he tries to discredit Moore, but has nothing concrete when confronted. I don't know who pulls them, but I can see the doctor's strings.
BTW make sure you watch the long version of Moore ripping Wolf a new asshole at CNN TV. Priceless:
