Political Punch Lines at Comic Strip Live
New York City Moment #1: Tonight Patty and I went, spur of the moment, to a small comedy club nearby where we live. After 3 solid comedians we were expecting to just file out of the club when the host told us that there was a surprise 4th comic: give it up for Chris Rock! There we were in an audience of about 80 people, 15 feet from the stage and Chris Rock did a 40 minute set of all new test material.
Really, really funny shit.
The set kicked off with great dog fighting material and was surprisingly political; with a bit about Hillary, Obama and Giuliani. For Obama, Rock joked that he couldn't win cause of one little known fact...he has a black wife.
Rock said he was all for a female candidate but asked if we couldn't find a more self-made, accomplished woman than Hillary, like one who without the help of her husband had risen in the ranks to Macy's manager. The crowd ate up the Hillary jabs.
Rock said Rudy was great on 9/11, but asked where the f*ck he was on 9/10? 7/12? 8/04? 6/30? He laid into Rudy the hardest and compared him to a pitbull: good when a prowler breaks in, but just a baby-mauling machine the rest of the time. The crowd was mixed, but of the three, Giuliani surprisingly had the most supporters.
On a side note, Rock said in his act that he was going to kill Flava-Flav. He literally said that he was going to shoot and kill Flava-Flav. He actually said the words, "Flava-Flav must die!" I tried to catch him after the show to pass along the legal advice I received from Mr. Sloat regarding my Fatwa on Larry King, but he slipped out of the club before I could warn him.

Bob: I guess Rock is "bulletproofed" by all his $$$ & maybe a few attorneys on retainer.
Maybe a macabre publicity stunt?
Glad you & Patty are enjoying some real pro comedy other than the news
Here is some "comedy" about 9/11 by some pales from Oneata, NY
google: loose change
Yikes Petey, that's pretty graphic shit. Gimme a disclaimer next time.
I saw these guys when Patty and I visited Ground Zero this month. As people were passing, they were shouting their slogans. I turned to Patty and said, "I bet at least one of these guys gets punched in the mouth daily."
Personally, 'the inside job' is not a scenario that I've ruled out or embraced. All I know is that bits of the official story seem really fishy.
If I imagine though for just a sec that 9-11 was an inside job and that I knew it beyond the shadow of a doubt. Then as abrasive and disrespectful as it is, I know I wouldn't hesitate to go down there and do the same thing.
Still when I saw them, there was a part of me that wanted to sick a fire-hose and police dogs on them.
Weird, eh?
that is freaking sweet.
i am so freaking jealous of your new living arrangement.
because of this, i just watched an old Chris Rock Show on HBO. It was from November 2000, when the election was unsettled. It was interesting to hear Rock, especially in light of what you said. Rock was very political.
He and his guest Al Sharpton ripped Bush big time. And he clearly hated Giuliani back then too.
Okay Bob, let's say you had a teenaged kid and you found drawings and papers in his room that said he was going to kill his teachers. Or let's say Ted Nugent gets on stage and threatens Hillary Clinton and Barrack Obama's life in front of a ramped up screaming crowd of rednecks ? Or perhaps it's just Ann Coulter calling John Edwards a faggot. Or Michael Savage and Pat Robertson saying gays deserve to die. What if a pissed off co-worker told you he was going to kill your boss tomorrow? What would do? What about Pro-Life protestors threatening to kill clinic staff as they enter their clinics?
Maybe it's just some guy threatening to kill his ex-wife if she doesn't come back to him.
Should we as a society be concerned about any of this ? How should we handle it? I know we can look at motive, but most murders are pretty senseless..... yes?
Menk,
Are you somehow comparing Chris Rock's remarks to "Pro-Life protesters threatening to kill clinic staff as they enter their clinics"? That's like comparing switchblades toting teens to butter knife toting teens.
All I'm saying is that there is a question of legitimacy in every case you listed. The odds of Rock getting charged with a crime for putting out a Fatwa on Flava-Flav is exactly zero, just like my tirade about Howard the Duck.
About the show:
When Rock asked who the audience thought was going to win in 08...Obama? Patty and I were the only two people out of 80 to cheer. Kinda an eerie silence.
I'm hoping people were still just dumb-struck that Chris Rock had walked out on the stage.
thats NYC baby, hillary and guilani turf
There are only two things about 9-11 that make me wonder:
1.) was Flight 93 (turned around over Cleveland - crashed in Pa) "brought" down? Some close associates in the AF gave me the wink on that. Its preposterous to think that Flight 93 - being one of the last planes in American air space - was not in the gunsight as it careened towards DC. Also, "brought " down could have taken any form such as an act of "chicken" by a brave pilot to thwart the amateur terrorist pilot. It is fact that the passengers revolted - and this may have become the cover story and stuff of legend
2.) was a missile just behind the 757 that crashed into the Pentagon? It is feasible that a defensive missile such as a sparrow, was hot on the 757's tail just as it hit the Pentagon
Inside Job? Absolutely Not. Although all the warnings and signs were there. Bush blew them all.
If I lived in NYC, I would pay tribute at the site of 9/11 - NY is my birth state and I was hurt severely by the attacks and moreso the fact that the pussy commander in chief let Bin Laden slip away free.
t-dawg,
Surprisingly Hillary didn't get any more love than Obama. Maybe 10 cheers, mixed with 10 boos.
t-dawg,
And you say Giuliani turf, but I wonder...Rock started his political set with something like: "Americans love Giuliani, but we New Yorkers know the truth." I've heard that a bunch around town.
All and all it's hard to gauge which way the city's leaning.
What about Ted Nugent's remarks..... you don't see a problem there?
I do, with anyone suggesting anyone else should be shot...especially these idiots who have a following such as Ted Nugent.
I know some persons who would be better off under turf - but to even suggest to others to make it happen is wrong.
Funny stuff...Chris Rock actually showed up again last night at Comic Strip Live...Hit on Hil again...Saying that the only thing that hil and obama have in common is that they are both men...lol.
