Now we have to endure another ridiculous Bush nominee.

I heard Chertoff may be the guy. Sure, he did so good with handling Hurricane Katrina, so why not let him run the DOJ?

Yep Fred, lying, perjury, and politicism of the justice system is so common in this administration.... what's the big deal.

WOOOHOOO! I'll be interested to see who they put forth now with a Democratically held Congress. I mean, the next guy can't possibly be any worse...right?

You got it Mencken. Same bullshit that went on in Clinton's administration. Some of it was serious but much of it was the oppostion trying to destroy both administrations for pure political gain. It made the Reps. look like power hungry hacks and judging from Congress's approval numbers this time around, the same can be said.

Glenn Greenwald at Salon.com. discusses the possibility of Paul Clement being a "de-facto" recess appointment:
"The acting attorney general with be Solicitor General Paul Clement. He "can stay in that position for quite a while," a senior administration official said.
That would avoid a bruising confirmation fight. Some Democratic senators have vowed not to confirm a Gonzales successor. . . .
An administration official explained: An individual may serve in an acting capacity for 210 days. However, if there is a pending nominee, the 210 day "clock" starts again when a nominee is announced. The 210 day "clock" would restart again if the nominee is voted down. The clock stops when there's a nominee, and restarts with a new 210 days if the nomination is withdrawn or fails."
... sweet Jesus. All of that time could either allow Dubya to hand Clement an easy appointment with zero say from anyone else ... or... give him time to come up with some criminal ghoul worse than Abu Ghraib Gonzo.
Which option is scarier?

Fred for your sake I hope you knew I was being sarcastic. Warts and all, I don't recall the Democrats stripping our civil liberties, subverting the Constitution and trying to make torture legal. But then again, maybe I missed something.

The cat litter box has been cleaned

Good riddance to BAD rubbish.

The man has no self esteem or conscience for that matter - to stay this long

The argument that the Democrats are "just as bad" is a real screamer

I saw Bush's comments yesterday on some tarmac out west. He is clearly not happy to lose Alberto. The argument that Gonzales was driven out by partisan mud slinging is absurd. The calls for Gonzales to go were as bi-partisan as it gets. Tom Coburn!!! Come on.
