A Pro-Life Republicans Edition

Sen. John W. Warner, one of the most influential Republican voices in Congress on national security, called on President Bush to begin withdrawing U.S. troops from Iraq in time for Christmas as a new intelligence report concluded that political leaders in Baghdad are "unable to govern effectively." He does not like the fact that troops keep dying for nothing....now that's a pro-life Republican!

College Football preseason rankings are out. I personally think the polls should be banned by the NCAA until October. Such a ban would eliminate nonsense where 4 loss teams like Florida State or Notre Dame are ranked above upstart teams like Wake Forest, just because the team was ranked higher in August. For what it's worth, USC is #1 and Ohio State is #11. Ohio State does not seem very good this year, but with a joke schedule, they could easily be back in the title game.

I think I already mentioned this at some point, but it bears repeating: the Republican-led FEMA has been suppressing health warnings to Katrina victims and recovery workers. Sad.

Rudy Giuliani refused to participate in much celebrated (and Bush-ignored) Iraq Study Group led by James Baker. He actually explained he couldn't help this group (that was designed to fix the mess in Iraq and save lives) because it conflicted with his fundraising schedule. I guess this is what it takes to be considered strong on national security for Republicans!

Tim Donaghy pled guilty to giving gambling tips to games he officiated. Those games were in December of last year, I believe. I hope that jerk David Stern is happy. This guy cops to a plea which stops all the real details from coming out, and now Stern can say this was no big deal. And does anyone really believe the NBA will investigate (and reveal) more info on the scandal? No shot - it is against their best interest to tell the paying fans what actually happened. What a joke.

Report: "Half of the nation's eligible poor aren't getting the food stamps to which they're entitled." Stuff like this just has to get fixed. I don't know if it bureaucracy's fault or something else, but stuff like this cannot be tolerated.

Obama gave a recent speech and explained how Bush is not solely to blame for America's problems. He went on to talk about a need for real, big change in Washington. It is that big talk that I like. Critics will just say its empty rhetoric, but I say it is inspiration to fellow Americans to call and push for change.

Recent hurricanes and gasoline issues are proof of the existence of a new chemical element. Research has led to the discovery of the heaviest element yet known to science. The new element, Governmentium (Gv), has one neutron, 25 assistant neutrons, 88 deputy neutrons, and 198 assistant deputy neutrons, giving it an atomic mass of 312.

These 312 particles are held together by forces called morons, which are surrounded by vast quantities of lepton-like particles called peons. Since Governmentium has no electrons, it is inert; however, it can be detected, because it impedes every reaction with which it comes into contact.

A minute amount of Governmentium can cause a reaction that would normally take less than a second to take from four days to four years to complete.

Governmentium has a normal half-life of 2- 6 years; It does not decay, but instead undergoes a reorganization in which a portion of the assistant neutrons and deputy neutrons exchange places. In fact, Governmentium's mass will actually increase over time, since each reorganization will cause more morons to become neutrons, forming isodopes. This characteristic of moron promotion leads some scientists to believe that Governmentium is formed whenever morons reach a critical concentration. This hypothetical quantity is referred to as critical morass.

When catalyzed with money, Governmentium becomes Administratium, an element that radiates just as much energy as Governmentium since it has half as many peons but twice as many morons.

Apparently the ads on the radio for food stamp customers is not working. Congress could create a new agency to fix the food stamp program. They could call it Food Stamps For America. The FSA could go door to door and enroll those entitled and for those that refuse they could appeal to their civic duty to convince them.

Petey,
I dont know where you pulled that one out of but after a second and careful reading it made perfect sense. It has the making of a nobel prize but they may have to create a new category.

I highly doubt it. This site does not seem to think it is a big deal. They probally think that he is the real victim or something.

One of my father's WWII war buddies is a retired scientist from Kitt Peak AZ. He sent me it - dont know if he wrote it but it hits home.

I havent given much thought to the food stamp program. It is hard to imagine that there are hungry persons(adults) out there - but I can believe that there are hungry children due to abandonment/ otherwise irresponsible parenting which seems to be rampant.

Chuck, I read the report about half of those eligible not receiving food assistance. I think in Ohio thats a result of the Taft era attitude of just doing NOTHING while state bureaus run wild & also insensitivity towards the poor. On further examination, I will bet that the $$$$ is being stolen and the state is not saving anything

One face value Warner's comments seem positive, but in reality, withdrawing 5,000 troops is about as effective as pulling your jimmy out one centimeter to
avoid a pregnancy. Either you're in or you're out.

Petey, you forgot buzzons, those things that help you deal with the chaos.

Ya, I heard the lead in to the NBC news - stating something earthshaking like John Warner was leading the mutiny.

As I watched the news segment with Warner - I wondered : Just what will rotating out a few thousand troops accomplish? Lottery style morale booster for the troops?

Warner said he had "Cleared his conscience" Ya, right!- His "political" conscience (if there is such a thing)

Buzzon - I am on the wagon and drug free (presently)...but some days?????

Ohio State is not going to sniff the title game this year, regardless of schedule. I think N'Western is back on the schedule...so that should be a loss under Tressel.
