Republican Senator: A Lewd Criminal

rwr_introAmongst the busy day in news (Alberto Gonzalez resigning and Michael Vick pleading guilty) a new Republican sex scandal has emerged. And we are not talking about hooking up with an intern....that would be too normal (too much like Clinton I guess). It was just discovered that back in June Republican Senator Craig was arrested at the Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport on suspicion of lewd conduct. He pleaded guilty to a misdemeanor, paid a $1000 fine, was given one year of probation, along with 10 days of jail (which he did not have to serve).

What was the lewd behavior? According to police, "at 1216 hours, Craig tapped his right foot. I recognized this as a signal used by persons wishing to engage in lewd conduct. Craig tapped his toes several times and moves his foot closer to my foot....The presence of others did not seem to deter Craig as he moved his right foot so that it touched the side of my left foot which was within my stall area. Craig then proceeded to swipe his hand under the stall divider several times."

I am not sure how a criminal conviction of a US Senator remains a secret. But now that it is public, the Republican Senator is proclaiming innocence.....DESPITE ALREADY PLEADING GUILTY!

This man should lose his job immediately. He is criminal that was trying to illegally solicit gay sex in a public bathroom. Yet, I do hope he has the guts to stay in office, because he is up for reelection in 2008 - making his seat an easier pickup for the Democrat Representative Larry LaRocco.

We all remember Mark Foley, the Republican pedophile of 2006 - a hall of fame level pervert. Then there was Senator Vitter of Louisiana. Then, more recently, an Indiana Republican leader was sent out amidst accusations of trying to rape a 22-year old. That was within days of a Florida Republican rep that solicited an undercover male officer inside the restroom after offering to perform oral sex for $20.* Amazingly, these are just a few of the many similar Republican scandals.
*Note: the Florida Republican's defense was, and I am freaking serious, that the cop was black, so he feared he was going to be killed....so (instead of being murdered be the 'stocky' black man) he would force the 'stocky' man to take his $20 and a blowjob.

Well, now add Republican Senator Larry Craig to the list of gay Republicans that turn to criminal conduct, because they are so messed up from their years of repressing their gayness. It is really sad.

It has been long reported that Craig is gay. Of course, he still supports banning same-sex marriage.

It is reaching a point that it is almost fair to conclude that by opposing gay marriage, you are in fact a closeted gay.

"I am not sure how a criminal conviction of a US Senator remains a secret." Yeah, really.

Shameful by Craig. Even worse claiming innocent after pleading guilty. This probably could have been stopped / prevwnted along time ago, these rumors have been swirling forever about him. He needs to resign ASAP. In a country of 300 million people, we cant have better people in the Senate - a group of 100?

Probably even par with those idiots outside the Georgia Dome tonight holding up signs that said "Mike Vick for President."

He tapped his foot ? Remind me not to listen to my iPod while crapping in Minnesota.

I don't know guys, hypocrite or not, some of this just sounds Orwellian.

" You are accused of being a gay hypocrite. You must lose your job and be punished severely".

What about hetero hypocrites who preach family values and then chase barmaids ? If Craig was straight and was caught hitting on a cocktail waitress, should he be forced to resign? Is the outrage here because he's gay or because he's a hypocrite? Is being either one of those enough of a crime to lose your job ?

It is being an actual criminal that means he should lose his job. He committed a misdemeanor, got probation and a jail sentence. That is a significant enough crime to lose a job.

And know he is lying about it, which is another reason to lose his job.

The whole part of being a hypocrite is just part of being a Republican.

Chuck...are you really that ignorant or do you have selective memory? it's gotta be one or the other. What Craig did was sad and the guys needs to step down. Lest you and all the self righteous liberals on here forget Democratic scandals...many not that old:

NJ Democratic Governor Jim McGreevey - a married, closeted homosexual who cheated on his wife.

KY Democratic Governor Paul Patton - busted cheating on his wife.

WV Governor Bob Wise - married, afffair with state employee.

Bill Clinton - Let's forget Monica...how many women have accused him or rape? Juanita Broderick? Paula Jones and the $850k settlement.

Gary Hart - busted cheating with Donna Rice.

And the granddaddy of scandals...Senator-for-life Ted kennedy and the drunken murder of Mary Jo Kopechne.

Should I keep going?

You, and the other Republican bashing dillwads (you know who you are) need to wake up and realize corruption is bipartisan.

Mencken has the best points to ponder.

What I will never be able to comprehend: Many of these govt officials or prominent persons who pitch a gay bashing agenda - are in fact perverts or gay themselves....?????

There was a prominent business man in my town- a town father really - who was busted last year in a perv ring sting near Akron. He was an Ultra Right Wing Gay basher.

Psychology is my weak suit - but I am quite content to not understand such enigmas.

I can remember taking a dump in an old style rest area on the freeway. Some weirdo peeped over the divider and I reached up to choke the bastard just as he took off.

PS: fighting is no fun during a natural call

Mencken - thats funny about shunning the iPod in Minnesota...I think I will avoid the airport head altogether

Petey - If Chuck didn't make it sound like this was just the evil Republicans doing these things, I'd be silent:

the Republican pedophile of 2006...

The whole part of being a hypocrite is just part of being a Republican.

Get it, Petey? Someone here needs to remind Chuck, and obviously YOU, that stuff like this goes beyond your political affiliation. Chuck stresses the political party of the offender, so get over it if someone calls him on it.

russ, you are being absurd. i explain in the first damn paragraph why this is different. cheating on your wife is bad, but not that abnormal.

Every example you gave is about a guy cheating on his wife in a sad, but typical way (except for reference to an event from 40 years ago).

BUT HERE, we have a Republican reaching to criminal conduct to fulfill his sexual desires, by sexually harrassing random civilians.

Sure, corrpution touches both sides...just not nearly as much on the Dems side. No question.

Petey,
Your right the someone else is worse routine is old. Why dont both sides declare an end to this game and deal with the issues and hyprocrisy of the elite. We allow the assholes cart blanche because we are so busy trying to extract an advantage for whatever our "side" may be. Never expect your guy to actually do the right thing because to question him strengthens the other "side".
Last I heard the Dems are 3 point favorites to win the election.

If the Democrats that cheated on their wives had proposed a Constitutional Amendment to criminalize that type of conduct, then it would be on the same level as Craig or Foley or the other republicans.

Uh...Chuck...McGreevey, the Democratic governor of NJ, had an affair with a male. He was married to a woman at the time. It came to light in 2004 (for those that are math-challenged, that's 3 years ago).

Sure, corruption touches both sides...just not nearly as much on the Dems side. No question.

See what I mean? "Our sides less corrupt than yours!!!" That's something to be proud of. My God it's just so weak that you even cop that attitude!!

Did I miss your coverage of THIS 2006 story?

"Between 2001 and 2006, Diane Feinstein, D-CA, served as the ranking member of the United States Senate Appropriations Subcommittee on Military Construction, Veterans Affairs, and Related Agencies, also known as the "MILCON" subcommittee. Feinstein also served as chair of the MILCON subcommittee when the Democrats controlled the Senate in 2001 and 2002.

While on the MILCON subcommitte, Feinstein voted for appropriations worth billions of dollars to firms owned by her husband, Richard C. Blum."

Your whole attitude is juvenile, naive and uneducated. Take of the blinders and open your eyes.

It makes them hypocritical, no doubt. But ask the wives of the Dem. cheaters how they feel about it. Oh wait...they run for president. And FYI...adultery is a law that's on the books in many states...it's just not enforced. We've gotten very LIBERAL when it comes to views on cheating.

Here is what i "get" from reading this thread:

Chuck writes about the news of the day albeit sensational and political but in keeping with the theme of a political blog....and Russ torpedoes most everything Chuck writes on the grounds that Chuck wrong because he is SOOOOOO partisan and further:::: Russ backs up this argument with examples of much worse items (Hey folks! - You aint heard nothing yet!)

Sensational, Partisan?

Help me out here guys. Hitting on someone is a crime? Gay sex is a crime, and if it is you support that line of thinking?

Craig might be a obnoxious skeeve, but can't we let the voters decide whether or not he keeps his job? Censure him for christ's sake. Make him watch Rosie for 30 days.

But only Chuck could put me in a position of having to defend some dumbass hypocritical Republican.

And Ben, your boy Rush is a drug skank and was also popped with enough Viagra to get Michelangelo's David's dick pointing skyward on his trip to the Dominican ( child sex destination that it is) and I see there's still a link to him on your site.

Again chuck cares not for right or wrong, he just cares that his side wins, if that means casting aspersions on a homosexual (or the hint thereof)and using that as grounds for removal from office so be it in his mind.

Chuck is again revealing his Roveian characteristics. He has yet to see the folly of the Republicans when they campaigned on hate and intolerance, sure he lambasted it at the time but now with the shoe on the other foot he decides to sink down to that level as well. Perhaps Chuck should practice being the change he wishes to see instead of engaging in his current quest of who can better smear and slander the other side.

Chuck doesn't post on ideas, only these short insignificant stories where he can point his finger and yell SINNER at the top of his lungs.

1) Uh...Russ...I said: "Every example you gave is about a guy cheating on his wife in a sad, but typical way (except for reference to an event from 40 years ago)."

Mcgreevey is a cheating on his wife guy. Not a criminal. Kennedy is the one from 40 yrs ago.

2) Yeah, Dems aren't as bad as Republicans. I don't understand why people like Fred and you think I am barred from making this claim/comparison. Every day our society judges who is better or worse....go to a court and watch a judge do sentencings. He will give one guy more time than the next....because one is worse than the other. that is the way things work.

3) the Feinstein story has been discussed. but i did not do a whole story....why would I when the GOP congress did not find any wrongdoing?

Menck, Craig committed a crime. He pled guilty to a crime. No, it is not the crime of the century, but it is a crime.

You cannot just reach into other people's stalls in a public bathroom.

YOU CALL THAT HITTING ON SOMEONE???
That is one of the dumbest things I have ever heard.

This Craig item is sensational - well, because Craig has made it that way.

1.) Solititing sex from a cop in the airport

2.) Pleading guilty and now "throwing" yourself on the mercy of the public (all over the media) and reneging on guilty - "Hey, I'm innocent NOW, Man"

3.) He is from the party that ushered Bush into office in 2004 on the gayphobia (gay marriage) stampede directed by the RNC

I've seen some real invasions of personal space by guys hitting on women. Saw it today at lunch at a cafe when some old guy grabbed one of the servers.
Heteros have set the bar pretty low when it comes to the definition of hitting on someone.

I wonder how much your life sucks as a cop when you have to stand in a freakin' public restroom all day waiting for some skeeve to tap his foot and wave his hand under the partition. Must be part of the new Patriot Sex Act. Busting Al Gayda.

Yes, thats some real crappy duty for the cops.

What the hell is the problem with someone that they have to be sexually imposing their bod on someone else...and in a public place no less??

Just today, a spanish type person stopped a truck on a job site and propositioned my partner (on Survey Crew) - He said yoo wanna buy a stereo- or something like that...I asked "Was that Alerto Gonzales" (in his new position)

As Uncle Leo once told Petey " Theres a woman out there for everbody, kid"
