The Experience Of Being First Lady
Zbigniew Brzezinski, one of the most influential foreign-policy experts in the Democratic Party, threw his support behind Barack Obama's presidential candidacy, saying the Illinois senator has a better global grasp than his chief rival, Hillary Clinton. Brzezinski dismissed the notion that Hillary Clinton is more seasoned than Obama: "Being a former first lady doesn't prepare you to be president."That's right, why does everyone say Hillary is the experienced one? She has been a Senator since 2001. That's it. I mean, she did some work for her husband....big deal. Does that make Laura Bush an experienced politician?
Barack Obama was a Illinois State Senator for 8 years, prior to his time in the US Senate. That time in the State Senate counts! And I am positive that it counts more than being the wife to some actual elected official. So don't drink the Kool-Aid everyone is being given on Obama being the inexperienced one. Hillary may have longer history (of pissing off Republicans), but that does not equal experience. Barack has over 11 years of experience as an elected official, which is more than Hillary or John Edwards.
Unrelated: During a recent speech, President Bush commented on a meeting with a veteran who had lost both legs in Iraq. Bush told an audience "he's a good man, we're gonna get him some new legs." Classy.

MORE OBAMA:
I just read how, as President, Obama has plans to work with Republicans. Richard Lugar is a friend of his, whom he has worked closely with.
John Warner and Tom Coburn are other GOP senators he has good relationships with. And I think others will line up to be a part of his fame.
That is a HUGE reason I support Barack Obama - he will get stuff done, because the GOP doesn't hate him like they hate Hillary.
I like Obama, but just to add some perspective . . .
Hillary did work with a number of Republicans while in the Senate (e.g., McCain), and appeared to impress many of them with her professionalism.
Also, all First Ladies are not alike. Most aren't so involved with policy beyond pillow talk. Hillary was involved for eight years in the White House before her years (two more than Obama) in the U.S. Senate.
Likewise, Hillary has professional experience working on Capitol Hill when she was younger, working for the Children's Defense Fund, and as wife of Governor Bill Clinton.
Hillary does have the edge in experience. But, like Obama says, Cheney and Rumsfeld had tons of experience. It's judgment that may be what's more important. Sometimes good judgment comes with experience. Other times (Cheney, Rumsfeld), it doesn't.
If you want to know what will happen to Republicans who play too nice with Obama ( or Hillary for that matter ) just look for them to get what Lieberman got from fellow Democrats when he played too nice with BushCo.
To clarify, I do know that Hillary's role as first lady was much greater than most - especially Laura Bush (who supposedly did some gang task force, or something minor).
But to compare her 8 years as first lady to Obama's 8 years as a legislator is nutty.
Obama drafted and passed dozens of laws dealing with the death penalty, health care, and other important issues (especially in the criminal justice area). He also voted on hundreds of other important laws.
Hillary drafted a health care plan that dramatically failed. After that, she did little.
I stand by Obama having greater experience.
Either way, like anonymous points out: what is most important is good judgment. Obama has clearly better judgment.
Obama was interviewed by the Daily Show last week. When asked about his "experience" he said something along the lines of, "Rumsfeld and Cheney are two of the most experienced people in our current government and look how thats going."
I'd vote for him just based on that answer.
I look forward to Obama continuing to prove why he is more qualified than the rest of the field to be president.
Lets all get behind the senior senator from W.Va. After all he more experince than the rest of the whippersnappers.
its not like hillary was home clipping coupons beforebill was elected, she has a track record in the private sector that is formidable as well. It doesn't matter you all wll vote for whoever the dems trot out-team affiliation is more important than ideas to you zealots
and one hell of a successful record. Anyone that can enter the commidity market with such little experinece and make a killing the first time has my vote. Long live the chickens
