Unlike Hillary and Edwards, he stood up against Bush's push to invade Iraq and voted. That's not Kool-Aid, that's fact. Another fact, unlike Edwards, Hillary still stops short of admiting that it was a mistake. Unreal.
I butchered that sentence, but you know what I meant...
Obama didn't support a piece of legislation that striped the Congress of its constitutional duty to declare war and instead gave a hawkish President (with former Haliburton boss as a VP) the God-staff to use our military however he saw fit for an undetermined amount of time.
This cowardly move by half the Dems must never be forgotten. Obama was not one of those who rolled-over.

I don't have a problem with Obama. I have a problem annointing him as a savior. A lot of people have opposed this war from day one, but that hardly qualifies one to be president.
I don't think he has the stomach for the job and I consider that somewhat of a compliment. When he speaks, to me at least, he seems to be just going through the motions. He may be coming to the realization that whoever the next president of this country is, they're fucked as soon as they take their hand off the bible.Hillary, souless wench that she is, probably won't care. That could be an asset.

I agree: opposing the war hardly qualifies one to be president.
The question though is does supporting an ill-conceived war to ensure that you don't lose your precious seat disqualify one from being president. In my opinion, that answer is a resounding yes. Last election I absolutely grilled Kerry for the same vote. It was a moment of truth, these politicians let the nation down.
Our involvement in Iraq was not the typical type of conflict that starts off as a skirmish with a handful of SEALS and then escalates, and escalates and before you know it, it jumps into the national consciousness and we're faced with the difficult decision to pullout or finish the job.
No. This was in the national spotlight before it started. As the nation looked to the Democrats in Congress, they found a group of adults playing "not it." No one wanted to be responsible for starting (or standing in the way of) this war. Hot potato!

Not that I would disagree with any of what you said, but let's face it, most people took the case Bushco was making in the run up to the war at face value, the public and the politicians alike.
It might have been stupid to do so, but with Bush rolling with a 86% approval rating, and the 14% opposing the war being characterized as nothing more than bitter Bush haters, you can see how we got where we are today. On top of that, Bushco's capacity for mendacity ( how's that Jesse?) exceeded even my wildest expectations. My point is a lot of people got fooled. People who knew better.
Obama knew better and voted accordingly, but he was blessed with the advantage of being put into office in a landslide.
I'd just like to see a little more fire and passion from the guy.

Agreed. I have to admit that in the past few months it's looked like Obama is just going through the motions. I saw him speak in Cleveland early on and he was on fire. I imagine that this process is exhausting and am waiting for his home-stretch second-wind to kick in.
And about the idea that nearly everyone was fooled. I wasn't fooled, nor were half the Dems in Congress who voted no.
Don't you remember the run-up to the war? The questionable nuclear intelligence? The no-bid contracts? The 'legitimizing' 49 nation Coalition? Bush's fleeting pledge to force a vote at the Security Council? The complete bullshit links between Saddam and Osama?

I know that Obama isn't the son of God or anything. I know he's not a perfect candidate. I do believe that he gives a shit though. That he really wants change that benefits the average American. That he has a vision for this country.

HIllary's fatal flaw is an inability to admit she was wrong or to change direction once her mind is made up. Whether she has adequately addressed that is my question regarding her. One of Bill's greatest assets was his ability to step back say he was wrong and move forward in another direction. Hillary, both with her healthcare initiative of the early 90's and her reticence to renounce her previous support of the Iraq war shows an inabilty to to do that (although recently she has been positioning herself more and more as opposed to the war). I am more curious as to which of two flavors of crap I will get to choose from in Nov of '08. Maybe it is a reflection of me but none of the candidtates stir any great longing in my political trousers.

The American public's outrage killed the original amensty bill and futher outcry defeated the kennedy/durbin Dream act when it was attempted to attach it to the DOD bill a few weeks ago but Harry knows best. I have denounced the laws passed that give Bush the legal right to suspend our rights by declaring an emergency and have felt some of his "midnight" signings were another political game.
