Munroe Falls

Laura
On Saturday Kyle, a group of friend and I went to Munroe Falls Metro Park. We cooked some burgers, hot dogs and sausage, went for a couple swims, threw the football around and mixed up a few "special" drinks. We talked about how it felt like a mini-vacation and what a good use of a beautiful weekend day it was. In my opinion you have to do a few things like this over the summer to earn the right to complain when its 5 degrees out with ten inches of snow on the ground.
Its easy to forget that we have places like this around to go and enjoy.

Since we get asked a lot here if we "enhance" or "photoshop" our photos I figured I explain a few things I did to this one of Kyle.
First I cropped it in a little bit(to 5 by 7). I turned up the saturation and vibrance to make the greens and blues pop more and then balanced the color to make it look more natural. Since I used the flash I had to darken the grill to make it more black instead of the more blown out grey that it looked at first. I turned up the overall contrast a bit and then added some sharpening. Last I converted it from a tiff to a jpeg and uploaded it to flickr.

For those interested in the more boring technical stuff:
I shoot the photos in the RAW format - I use Adobe Camera Raw 4 to do some of the aformentioned edits and then convert the file to a 16 bit tiff. After that I open it in Photoshop and do some of the more "spot edits"(which sometimes include removing dust spots or a bit of flare). After that it is converted to an 8 bit tiff and then to a jpeg.

Ha. It is sad. Those of us who are Daywalkers (part Ginger) have to wear high spf sunscreen so we never get much color anyway. Explanation from South Park. One of my favorite clips in the history of television.

Munroe Falls Metro Park is one of the hidden gems in Summit County. The place is very well maintained, $4 to enter, and water was perfect. The lawn that wraps around the lake is huge and I've always been able to find a spot with plenty of room. On this visit, we were able to snag a grill and table with no problem. There is something about a charcoal grill that makes everything taste better.

I have discovered local staycations too.

Some of my favorites are Indian Powwows- Nice one at Mohican coming up, Drag races - Thompson and Quaker City ( My dog loves to go to these), Flea Markets, Hartville, Rogers, Middlefield.

Truth is you dont need an EXPENSIVE vacation to Punta Cana to get a good dose of rest and rehab.

As Mencken said - you guys and gals are REALLY WHITE....Me- in the summer I look like a Cuban

Yikes. I have to wear SPF 50, and I'm not sure that would do the job for you guys. Do mushrooms grow on your desks at home?
