Recall Failed Miserably

The eggs over at Akron's Country Diner are extra scrambled today as those who tried to remove our mayor ended up rallying the city around him. Warner Mendenhall and his small band of followers have no escape from the embarrassing election results from yesterday's recall election. The recall was soundly defeated 74% - 26%. In another decision that shows a complete lack of political instincts, Mendenhall used the occasion of his city wide shellacking to announce that his wife Kelly will be running for Akron City Council as an at-large candidate this fall. Yawn. I'm tired of these people who waste the valuable time of those of us who want to make Akron better. Do something to help instead of running another complain campaign.

Congratulations go out to Mayor Plusquellic and his campaign staff. The people of Akron have spoken and this was a big win last night. Our staff at The Chief Source believes in the direction the mayor is taking our city and we are hopeful for our future under his continued leadership.

Well said, Kyle. No pictures from the victory party?

Kyle wins the prognostication award with his 65%-35% prediction. No one had predicted that big a margin.

Are there internal polls at the Chief Source I don't about?

The worst part related to the recall is the attitude in this country that ANY election is subject to litigation or recall, if you will. Those who just wont accept the facts are quick to cause wasteful actions.

I will say to those " Sometimes you just have to shut-up and smell the coffee"

Anyhow, glad that the Mayor withstood the storm. Just for kicks, read up on the smear campaign on Mayor Healy in Canton

Was anybody else embarrassed to be an Akronite when you took that enormous piece of paper to the booth and noticed how big of a waste was made. I marked my one tiny circle in the upper left corner of the 12 x 36 piece of paper, fumbled about with the gargantuan paper and told the poll workers I felt like I had cheated.

Anonymous, I wasn't at the party, but had some friends who were there and I heard it was a good time. I volunteered a little bit for Citizens for Akron and was happy to see the campaign win. They had good people helping out and running the campaign. I suspect the organizing done for the recall will pay dividends for the city council candidates.

Mencken, thank you for the award. I haven't seen an election that bad since Strickland vs. Blackwell in 2006.

Journalist, it was absurd. I hope City Council moves quickly to raise the threshold to trigger a recall.
