Tiger Fighter

I took this photo of the new band Tiger Fighter in the basement of Square Records in Highland Square. They are a typical Akron band in the sense that every member is also already in another band. Dave plays in Houseguest, Andrew and Matt are in Big Sur, and Ian is in Twilight Hobs. They play their first show a week from Friday at Musica opening up for Drummer(Pat from the Black Keys other band). They don't have anything recorded yet but I heard them play a few songs and it will be a show worth checking out...
I lighted this photo using two flashes shot through umbrellas and I knocked the shutter speed down a bit to get the string of lights in the background to show up.

Great color. I like the band name "Tiger Fighter" too.
Dave was saying that it seems everyone he tells the name to really likes it or really hates it.
I like the band photos you've posted, past and present. Are you going to shoot any for their show?

Unfortunatley it turns out the show has been canceled. I guess that the Black Keys are going to NYC to record with Mos Def and a few other people and that was the only week all the schedules lined up.
I heard that the show had been rescheduled for August 7th.
Lame. I caught The Black Keys last weekend in Pittsburgh. They aren't really my jam, but I have a lot of respect for them and I love their Akron/Ohio pride.

My friends and I always talk about how cliche the "don't look at the camera/musician" pics are. Posers! It was cool for about, oh, 12-months. Love your work, dude, but hate this pose.
I took some you might like of the band all laughing and looking into the camera. We talked about trying to avoid band-promo-shot-cliches but they just wanted some shots snapped before their practice - so nothing to elaborate or original was likely to occur.
They basically just wanted something for myspace and stuff like that - i gave them about 15 shots so it will be interesting to see which one they choose to use.
The show is still going to happen but with Beaten Awake instead of Drummer.
Asking subjects what they want is rather dicey... they either don't know, don't care, or their idea stinks.
Imagine the band coming to you and saying, " We want to write a song.... what do you want to hear"?
Better to come up with your own concept and sell them on it.
Good point Mencken.
Here is one of the more candid shots - it probably fits their style a bit more.
