Will Padilla, Candidate for Ward 8

One of my favorite holiday traditions in West Akron is the 4th of July parade held on my street. The registration fee for the Castle Boulevard Parade is 50 cents and kids have the chance to win a decoration contest. Everyone gets a post parade Popsicle. It is the kind of event that really makes me proud to live in Akron. Parades are also a time for local politicking.
Will Padilla is running for Akron City Council in Ward 8 and is the candidate I'm supporting in the Democratic Primary. I invited Will and his family to come to the parade so I could introduce him to some of my neighbors and so his daughter Chloe could ride her scooter in the sea of kids. After the parade, we shot a short video which I posted above.
Will Padilla is the kind of councilperson we need in Ward 8 because of his professional experience and personality. Will works as a Senior Title Underwriter for First American Title Insurance Company and spends his days working to insure the value of his clients' homes. In addition, Will graduated cum laude from Cleveland-Marshall College of Law at Cleveland State University and is studying to take the bar this summer. The combination of his financial and legal expertise make him uniquely qualified to be a member of council. He's also a great guy and I hope to introduce him to many of you in the coming weeks.
Will understands the impact that crime, traffic, local economic development, and a variety of other factors have on our property values. I don't plan to move anytime soon, but I know that maintaining the quality of my neighborhood hinges on property values being stable or hopefully appreciating. I want my councilperson focused on our homes and neighborhoods everyday. Will's experience makes him qualified to do that on day one. I'll be posting more on Will's campaign in the coming weeks.

He had me at "Democratic candidate ... friend of Kyle's".
Thanks man. I hope to dive into some of the policy issues in the coming weeks.
Political endorsement distilled to it's most basic form: He wears the same uniform and he's a friend.
And you wonder why Sarah Palin gets so much unconditional love and support.
Actually, in a Democratic Primary they are all wearing the same uniform so your analogy doesn't really work.
I agree with anon.
There is statistical probability that the Republican (or other party) running could be the better choice.
You guys fall in love with candidates faster than sailors on a 48 hour pass.
No reason to endorse until the issues have been debated and the policies fleshed out.
First of all, I didn't endorse. Don't worry, that is coming later. What I did was say that I'm supporting and volunteering for a candidate. I don't pick the candidates I support on a whim. Anyone who has done political campaign work before knows that it is those early volunteers that show up and help out that make the most difference in the campaign because they are the most difficult to find. Everybody shows up to help on Election Day. Few do so early. Some people are content to sit on the sidelines and then complain Monday morning about the results. When it comes to local campaigns where I believe my involvement can be helpful, I get in the game early. That is why I did this post.
Actually about 50% show up on Election Day.
You get older Kyle, you get to the point where you don't trust any of these guys until the check clears.
Look at Obama. I still like the guy, but as Bill Maher said, this is not the guy I voted for.
Where did he go?
Well, when I said everyone I was referring to volunteers. I'm glad they do show up on election day. Fair point about waiting for the check to be cashed. For me, it is important to support the man or woman I think is going to do the job the best. Then, once elected, if I disagree with something they do I'll say so.
What is Obama doing that you are concerned about?
Start with Afghanistan.
Printing so much money that foreign investors are concerned about our fiscal policy.
Obama didn't start that...
After just reading that 7 out of 10 Republicans would still vote for Sarah Palin for president, I feel like I need to retract any negatives I have about Obama and place the blame where it really belongs....... Republican voters who would elevate this imbecile Palin to the highest office in the world. Palin makes Bush look like Bertrand Russell by comparison.
