Wine and Gold Scrimmage

This past Saturday, the Cavaliers played their inter team scrimmage at the James at Rhodes Arena at the University of Akron. The game was played at maybe 60% effort and Lebron played in sweatpants. The highlight was watching Z and Shaq guard each other knowing we have both of them on our team. Delonte West was absent.

Delonte West comment--this weekend I was watching the Miami Hurricanes game. The announcers talked up their coach as a great and somewhat strict disciplinarian, which I no doubt believe he is. However, their example to support their claim: "If a player is found with a gun, he's off the team. No questions." Really? Is that what it's come to? Being strict on guns is discipline?

I watched that too - they also said "only one player has been arrested under his watch" How many players are typically arrested on a college football team?

I'm excited for basketball this year - I might even watch a bit of it while its still football season(something I've rarely done).

No question Cleveland will be the center of the basketball universe this year. I'm so glad we were able to keep Varejao. He is going to benefit so much from having the extra big man. More tips and more flops for sure this year because he's going to get to guard forwards instead of having to rotate in on centers.

Tim, I thought that exact thing. I'm assuming other did too.

Boys, no doubt the Cavs will dominate in many respects. There won't be the Kobe/Shaq problem that occurred in LA. But I gotta ask, what does happen to Z? I hope the Cavs don't forget how great he is from outside--the guy can shoot like a guard.

I could have lived without Varejao.

Greg, I think we run a true two big men rotation and both get to have fresh legs. Maybe we go twin towers against some teams like the Spurs did with Duncan and Robinson.

I hope West gets right in the head.

With how old both Shaq and Z are, we need two bigs in the rotation.

I love the Varejao signing. I will listen to the argument that we paid too much for him, but I don't think the contract was that far off from what he deserves. He may not score a ton of points, but the possessions he keeps alive with his tips and flops, equate to something like 8 points a game. You need a high energy, garbage guy on your team, and Varejao is the best.

We are an improved team, but if Artest does an adquate job of fitting in, then LALA is the team to beat in the league.

I like the Celtics and Magic to meet in the eastern conference finals. Cavs had all the stars aligned in their favor last year and choked.
